Ahmad Deen and the Curse of the Aztec Warrior

  Author:  Yahiya Emerick

  Grade Level:  4-7

  Subject: Adventure

Rating:  4 and a half stars

Tired of the unIslamic tone of Goosebumps? Get your hands on some truly adventurous tales. Get to know the Deen family! The Deen trilogy consists of three exciting tales that follow the Deen siblings: Ahmad and Layla. What's refreshing about these three books is the manner in which they are written. Though the books contain Muslim characters, none of the "American" excitement is lost. Today's Muslim youth is very much accustomed to the fast paced action that this country's authors have to offer. None of the excitement is lost in any of these great books for kids.

We first are introduced to the pair in the premier book entitled, Ahmad Deen and the Curse of the Aztec Warrior. From the very title itself, we know that we are going to be in for quite a trip! We follow Ahmad and Layla Deen as they help their father on one of his archeological expeditions. The mystery, however, lies not in the artifacts but in the inn keepers and their strange custom: sacrificing someone to their false god! It's up to Ahmad and his little sister to save the day.

The language is very engaging and there are enough thrills to keeps young readers wanting more.  This book is currently being taught as part of the reading syllabus in dozens of Islamic schools.
