The Army of Lions

Author: Qasim Najar

Grade Level:  6-9

Subject: Adventure

Rating: Four and a half stars.

It's rare that one gets a chance to read an adventure story with the excitement of a "Conan" novel with a leading cast of Muslim characters. The Army of Lions has done just that.

The Army of Lions focuses on the exploits of four Muslim heroes as they roam the country side freeing the world of tyranny while spreading the word of Islam. This first novel in this soon-to-be series deals with a tyrannical ruler named Zanjir as he plans to destroy the kingdom of Sultan Amir. There is one problem though, he must first deal with The Army of Lions!

The leader of the group is Abdul Qadir. He and his sister Ra'idah are Hispanic-Muslim refugees who escaped their country when the Muslims were being persecuted.  Next up is Hadid. This young African prince must deal with the responsibility of protecting his people when Zanjir and his forces attack with out mercy. Lastly, but certainly not least, is Jadil Haq- "Batil Kabir" (big hero). His fists could push down iron doors, but it is Allah (swt) to Whom he gives thanks.

With such an exciting combination of individuals, one cannot go wrong. The level of excitement in this novel is fast paced and engaging. A novel of this genre for teens has long been over due. The Army of Lions sets the standard from the very beginning.  Expect more from this heroic group in forthcoming adventures.
