We all know that it is important to teach our children the way of life we call Islam. Yet, many times when someone is trying to convey the message of Islam to a young child, the information often gets lost. There could be several reasons for this. However, the most common reason would be the inability to present the concepts of Islam's basic or complex tenants in a simple manner.  This problem now has a solution.

Learning about Islam, the precursory text to the best selling textbook, What Islam is All About, has been geared strictly for grades 4 through 6.

When it comes to presenting a work, the first thing that I'm sure many people will ask will be: "Is it as good as the first one?" The simple answer to that question is: "Yes!" This new text book is not a re-hashed version of its predecessor. All of the lessons are new. And there was no cutting of costs when it came to the amount of foot noting, graphics and easy to understand explanations that has made What Islam is All About a hit with the older kids. The only difference is the manner of presentation.

When dealing with younger children we have to consider their needs.  The fonts for the text book have been enlarged; the writing level has been simplified, and the topics have been dealt with in a different manner. Take Eid, for example. This holiday has been presented in many ways, but leave it to Yahiya Emerick to come up with a new way to breath life into this commonly discussed topic.

Instead of just discussing what 'Eid and Ramadan are and represent,  Learning about Islam highlights a character from another country, in this case Poland, and illustrates the holiday's meaning and festivities through the eyes of a young Tartar-Polish sister named, Nadia.

A similar theme is used to discuss angels and Salah by Ayesha from America, Halal and Haram foods by Ahmad from Malaysia and Hajj by a young sister from Mecca named Saira. Such lessons not only give the information of very important topics in a friendly manner by having it introduced and explained by children the age of the reader, it also shows our children, at an early stage, that Islam is practiced all over the world.

I can go on about the extras that were not included in the first textbook like the sections on art, music, poetry and short stories, but you'll read it for yourself when you and your children find out how much fun it is Learning about Islam.
